I saw it a few days ago, and i didnt get it. It's the first movie I've ever seen which i didnt get (after a bit of the usual suspects). I knew some of you got goosebumps watching this movie, so I thought i'd ask here and let you explain.

Really, I was hoping you could explain this movie to me, cuz I'm seriously having problems.

    Here's my theory (spoilers)

He wakes up 2 october 1988. He hears that in 28 days the heaven will crack open. He hears this from Frank, a man in a bunny suit. This day an airplane motor crashes into his rome but he's not in that room so he's lucky to be alive.

28 days later: the heaven will crack open. Donnie discovered a lot about time traveling and can see portals (keep in mind that he's crazy). This day the heaven cracks open and an airplane flies into a timeportal. This airplane loses a motor and this motor flies 28 days back into Donnie's room. Donnie gets killed.

I am completely talking rubbish. I dont even get my own theory man. Whats the deal with that bunny rabbit? Why is Frank his invisible sidekick? Dang!

    Hey there.

There is nothing "up" with it. Its just totaly overrated.

The actors and writer/director cant even make up their minds up about it on the dvd.

I thought the movie was at its best when it was playing it strait.

    Despin out.

But I want your respect NOW.

If I can't have the respect of a guy I've never met named "skysandstars" who has NEVER see ANY of my stuff, yet still doubts I could ever make anything with such "literary genius". My life just isnt worth living.

    "literary genius"

I "highly", "highly", "highly", "highly" doubt your any older that 13.

    Despin out.

yeah,i'm under 13...note the sarcasm. the point is that donnie darko is made through metaphors. also, the fact that that was richard kelly's directorial debut and writing debut says a lot. i mean, seriously,if you've made stuff already, why isnt it as good or atleast somewhat known? donnie darko isnt exactly a popular movie among the public, but its highly favored and critically acclaimed amongst film critics and movie buffs. where's your indie feature film?

Because I've never made a four million dollar feature film. That starts and has been produced by a Hollywood superstar.

Ive never said it was a bad movie. There is a LOT about it I like. But it is overrated.

And for the record. "movie critics" and "film buffs" liking it doesnt mean anything to me.

    Despin out.

i've not seen the film, but from the descriptions here it fills me with as much anticipation as the critically acclaimed, film buff endorsed, 'blue' by derek jarman

I haven't seen the film but its film like these that are really starting to annoy me. Its one of those films you take your girlfriend to see just to show how smart you are, when in fact the film makes no sense and looses itself in the third act. There was another film that was weird or the sake of weird, which I can't remeber the name of right now. Being a filmmaker your first objective is to tell a story and if the writer/director can't decide what that story is then the movies' failed in my book.

That is one of the truest and most profound statements I've heard in a while.

BTW, IMO Donnie Darko was **** .
I got the impression that the filmmakers didn't have enough talent to actually make a good film, so they threw out some convoluted, **** poor excuse for a film and hoped that pretentious wanks would project it to be more than it really was, but thats just my take on it.
